The wetland complex is surrounded to the south by an upland black cherry - yellow birch / sugar maple forest with a dense undergrowth of Dennstaedtia punctilobula and to the north by a Cratageus savannah.;Early successional poor fen. It a is much wetter Sphagnum area than we have sampled. The "bog" quakes almost 2 meters away when you step down. The area was historically logged, cleared and grazed. The area is now managed by the USFWS and therefore protected. There is a thin band of almost pure Sphagnum growing along the pond's edge. It intergrades with this community.
Representativeness
This is a small patch community growing along the edge of an active beaver pond. Unsure of the representativeness since this is slightly different than the other Carex canescens communities we have observed. It more wet.
